Students volunteering

Writer: John CarrigJohn Carrig

Here is one of the studies we are undertaking. This one is on Barn owl pellets. It will be the biggest study done on pellets in the target area to date. An indepth look at what our Barn Owls eat. In part one it will look at Galway and border counties. We have 3 GMIT students working with us this year. We will highlight the work they are doing in the weeks to come.

COURTNEY REDMOND is a student in GMIT she is very experienced see below in her own words :

Just a bit about me: I have a BSc in Biology from the University at Albany, and I was involved in field research on seabirds. I was a field assistant for the Bird Island Tern Project in Massachusetts, supporting studies on Common and Roseate Terns for two seasons. I was also a field assistant for a season in Alaska, supporting productivity studies on puffins, kittiwakes, murres, storm petrels, and other species to assess recovery post oil spill. I then took a long detour into biotech, which led me to Ireland. I've finally decided to leave that career behind and focus on my lifelong passion for ornithology, so I am finishing up my MSc in Conservation Behaviour at GMIT, and hoping to move forward to a PhD!
